Meet the 2026–2027 leaders of the Latinx Law Student Association (LLSA), an active and vibrant part of the Western State community. LLSA is dedicated to supporting Latinx law students while creating opportunities for connection, leadership, and involvement across campus. The organization is open to all Western State students who want to build community and contribute to a more inclusive legal profession.

Emily Rivera, 3L
Co-President
Favorite Field(s) of Law:
Family and Immigration Law.
Role Models:
My role models are my parents. Their hard work and their character is one thiing I hope to embody one day.
Future Goals:
My ultimate goal is to be a happy and successful attorney. Eventually, I want to open my own firm, hopefully a multi-purpose firm that caters to the Hispanic community. I also wish to potentially become a law school professor, whether that’s once I retire or part-time while I’m still practicing, I’ve always wanted to do that.
Hobbies:
Pilates, watching college volleyball, going to Disneyland, lifting, cooking.
Fun Fact:
I really don’t like ketchup.
Advice for new students:
Don’t be afraid to put yourself out there and get involved!! So many opportunities come from meeting other students and attorneys.
Jazmine Vences, 3L
Co-President
Favorite Field(s) of Law:
Family Law and Estate Planning.
Role Models:
I don’t have one single role model. Instead, I look up to other first-generation students. Watching them balance school, work, and family responsibilities while figuring everything out without a roadmap reminds me that it’s possible. Their hustle pushes me to keep going, and it’s a big part of why I know I can make it through law school as a first-generation college graduate and law student.
Future Goals:
Down the line I hope to open my own practice.
Hobbies:
I love to go to the driving range.
Fun Fact:
I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada!
Advice for new students:
Don’t be afraid to take up space! You belong here.
Corina Gurrola, 2L
Vice President
Favorite Field(s) of Law:
I’m most interested in pursuing general civil litigation or appellate law. I love engaging with different areas of the law.
Role Models:
My role models have always been my mom and my older sister. Their sacrifices and support are the reason I’m able to study law. When I graduate, my law degree will be as much theirs as it is mine.
Future Goals:
My goal is to one day return to the the CA Court of Appeals as either a research attorney or an appellate court justice.
Hobbies:
I love going to the movie theater every month. I live for movies. I also love going to concerts. My sister has taken me to Regional Mexican concerts since I was 11 years old.
Fun Fact:
I went to a Marcel premiere and took a selfie with Tom Holland and Chris Evan.
Advice for new students:
Do not take shortcuts. Do your readings, your briefs, and your own outlines. It’s a lot of work but it makes studying for exams easier. Also, attend school and affiliate organization events. Grades is only part of the journey, networking can be equally important. Plus, you get to meet really cool and interesting people in the field.
Monica Magaña, 2L

Role Models:
My role models are my parents. They came to the United States with a dream and gave me so much from their dream. They continuously teach me how to walk with humility, courage, and faith, and I only hope to carry their lessons, legacy, and values with me throughout my career and life.
Future Goals:
After graduating from law school, I hope to pass the bar and use my education and skills to provide legal services to underrepresented communities.
Hobbies:
I enjoy watching movies, spending time with my family, and going to baseball games.
Fun Fact:
I danced Ballet Folklorico for about 7 years.
Advice for new students:
You are here because you belong here, in this profession and career. My advice to any new students would be to use your time in law school to challenge yourself and build on different skills. The Western State community is extremely welcoming and encouraging, and you deserve to give yourself the opportunity to thrive.
Clarissa Echevarria, 2L

Favorite Field(s) of Law:
Immigration Law and Family Law.
Role Models:
My previous attorneys I learned so much from working with them in my internship and previous paralegal role.
Future Goals:
My future goals is to inspire others to pursue their dreams and give back to my community.
Hobbies:
I like traveling and reading books.
Fun Fact:
I am a huge Disney fan.
Advice for new students:
Be kind to yourself and don’t give up please seek advice and support when you need it.
Irving Valdovinos Alvarez, 2L

Favorite Field(s) of Law:
Business and Employment Law + Pro Bono Work.
Role Models:
My role models are my family, whose perseverance and sacrifices taught me the value of hard work, and the attorneys and mentors who use their legal careers to advocate for underserved communities. Their examples inspire me to pursue excellence while remaining committed to service.
Future Goals:
My goal is to become a skilled business and employment law attorney and eventually open my own litigation firm with a dedicated pro bono legal department serving individuals and communities with limited access to legal representation.
Hobbies:
I enjoy working out, dancing, and spending time with my friends and family.
Fun Fact:
A fun fact about me is that I enjoy dancing to Spanish music.
Advice for new students:
Do not be afraid to ask questions, seek mentorship, and build relationships with your classmates and professors. Law school can be demanding, so remain organized, take care of yourself, and remember that you belong here.
