Lifting of COVID Protocols on Western State Campus
March 15, 2023

In light of Governor Newsom’s announcement on February 28, 2023 ending the COVID-19 State of Emergency in California we are lifting our COVID protocols on the Western State campus, effective on our return to classes after spring break, Monday, March 20, 2023.

Individual faculty members are authorized, as has always been the case, to set rules for their classes, including requiring students to wear appropriate masks in class. Masks will continue to be available to students who do not have a mask.

Also, any students, staff or faculty who feel safer doing so are free to wear masks in our facilities. We ask that everyone respect the needs of those in our Western State family who feel more vulnerable, or have family members who are more vulnerable.

Please remember, if you are ill, whether with COVID, the flu, or other illnesses, stay home to avoid passing your illness on to others. Our policy on class attendance may be found on p. 21 of the Student Handbook, which is on our website under Current Students.

We will continue the use of our COVID reporting form, which can be found on our website on the COVID-19 Information page, or at this link: COVID Reporting Form

So if you test positive for COVID, please report that on the reporting form, which goes to Dean Arshagouni, and notify your faculty members so that they can record the classes you miss.

Western State reserves the right to reinstate COVID protocols should future developments warrant such actions.
