Western State College of Law proudly wrapped up this year’s Everett Dorey LLP – 1L Moot Court Competition, sponsored by Everett Dorey LLP. We couldn’t be more impressed with the incredible performances from our 1Ls. After a week of preliminary rounds, eight standout 1Ls advanced to the finals, where they argued their cases in front of a panel of esteemed judges. Every finalist brought thoughtful preparation, poise, and passion to the courtroom, and impressed a panel of veteran litigators with their expert presentations.
A huge congratulations to our two runners-up, Macyn Sherman and Alina Padilla, who won Best Advocate for Appellee and Best Advocate for Appellant, respectively. The two students were recognized for their exceptional oral advocacy skills. Their arguments stood out for their clarity, composure, and command of the legal issues presented.
And a very special shoutout goes to Claire Lukehart, who won the Overall Best Oralist Award! Claire was presented with a $500 scholarship, making for an unforgettable moment that concluded an already exciting day.
After the competition, students, faculty, and judges gathered to celebrate with a delicious lunch, during which the competition winners were revealed. It was a chance to connect, reflect on the experience, and honor the hard work these 1Ls put into preparing for the competition.
We’re incredibly grateful to our distinguished panel of judges for lending their time and insight to the event: the Hon. Erick L. Larsh (Class of 1986, Hall of Fame), the Hon. Linda Marks, and Seymour B. Everett III, who is a founding partner of Everett Dorey LLP.
And a heartfelt thank you to Everett Dorey LLP for sponsoring the competition and awarding the $500 scholarship. Their continued support gives our students real-world opportunities to grow, challenge themselves, and shine.
Congratulations again to everyone who participated—we’re so proud of our 1Ls!
