Part Time Program

At Western State College of Law, we have been providing a high-quality legal education to working professionals for over four decades through our part-time evening program.

The Part-Time Evening program, with Fall and Spring starts, is designed to be completed in four years. At Western State, Part-Time students are a high priority to a faculty dedicated to teaching, accessibility and successful outcomes. Evening students follow the same Program of Study and learn from the same highly qualified full-time faculty as day students. They typically enroll in 9-10 units during the fall and spring semesters and 5 units for the summer term. In addition to the required courses, a significant majority of upper-division electives are held during the evening or weekend hours, enabling part-time students to have access to the wide range of instruction offered by experienced practitioners. At Western State, evening students are full members of the law school community, with opportunities to participate in law review, moot court, student organizations, clinic and externships. Speakers, panels, and other enrichment programming are most often held at times when working students are likely to be available, while Professors also schedule office hours for the convenience of their evening students.

"I’ll always remember being so darn proud I accomplished this while working full time at the William Morris Agency."

What is your favorite memory of your time at Western State?

I’ll always remember the process of graduating and being so darn proud I accomplished this while working full time at the William Morris Agency. I would travel from Beverly Hills to Fullerton on the I-5 in traffic 2 nights a week....Got home by 11:00pm....Studied, ate quickly and got a few hours a sleep to start over again the next day......I still have the photo of my J.D degree being given to me by Dean Boas.

"Western State’s programs that provided evening and weekend classes allowed me to accomplish everything."

What does being a Western State alum mean to you?

I’m a fourth generation Orange County resident, so it ties into the pride of Orange County for me. I worked, fell in love three months into my first semester, got married and had my daughter while attending. Western State’s programs that provided evening and weekend classes allowed me to accomplish everything.

How do you view Western State’s position in the legal community?

We’ve always had more sitting judges than any other OC law school. That’s always made me proud of Western State, although it seems to be a little known fact in the community. When the school secured ABA approval, the community seemed to take note and consider Western State among the top law schools in the community.

"As a full time working professional during the day and a single Mom, a part time evening program was the only option for seeing my dream of attending law school come to fruition. The extraordinary academic support and high quality faculty at WSU Law made it overwhelmingly the best option!"

"My classmates and I were all working and going to school at night, which created a strong bond. The ones I most admired were the single working mothers in our class."

What is your favorite memory?

Favorite? I have a lot of them. Let me think. The friendships, I’d say. I’m still connected with my friends from law school.

I was very sad when we graduated; I loved law school so much. My classmates and I were all working and going to school at night, which created a strong bond. The ones I most admired were the single working mothers in our class. Western State gave everyone the opportunity to succeed.

How do you view Western State’s position in the legal community?

I got an absolutely terrific education – before they were accredited. I continue to see the personal relationship aspect. The philosophy was about the whole person, and I haven’t seen it change really. It was a choice that worked for me, because I needed to work full time and did not want to commute to Los Angeles to attend school. Western State helped me pass the bar the first time and they continue to support their graduates. Truthfully, WSU was a great school in the 1970's, and it has only improved.

"I only applied to one law school. The part-time program at Western State represented the best opportunity for me to achieve my goal of becoming an attorney. Western's reputation, faculty, and the option of attending evening classes while keeping my full time job as a Deputy Sheriff made Western the clear choice for me."

"I was working as an investment banker in So. Cal., and decided it was time to go back to law school. Western State was a top choice."

What is your first memory of Western State?

I was working as an investment banker in So. Cal., and decided it was time to go back to law school. Western State was a top choice; it had a good reputation, working on provisional ABA approval, and it offered a flexible schedule. I was already married with a mortgage and kids.

The people in admissions were incredibly receptive and accommodating. Western State was a great school for me because it gave me the ability to finish law school while I was working and still get an absolutely top quality legal education.

What does being a Western State alum mean to you?

There are a lot of really high quality Western State alumni practitioners in Southern California. I run into them every day, and it’s a good feeling of community.
