Student Testimonials

Participating in the Immigration and Deportation Defense Clinic was by far my favorite part of law school. The clinic offered a supportive and structured environment allowing me to apply legal principles in actual practice. Working directly with real clients was profoundly rewarding and allowed me to develop practical skills and professional confidence.

– Madison Leonhardt, 3L

The clinic helped me to develop a solid professional identity as a future advocate and allowed me to collaborate with other students through casework and projects which helped me grow personally. The most valuable experience was working directly with clients to counsel them through their options for immigration relief and to empower them by letting them know their rights.

– Ana Morel, 3L

Being part of the immigration clinic has been the highlight of my law school career. Nothing beats the experience I have gained being a part of the clinic and the skills I have developed. Professor Rivera, Professor Camacho and Judy are so knowledgeable and their feedback has made such a difference in how I will be advocating moving forward. I would have participated all three years if possible!

– Giselle Preciado, 3L

It has been an honor to be part of Western’s inaugural Immigration and Deportation Defense Clinic. The Clinic is an invaluable experiential learning opportunity for students to apply the skills and knowledge they have learned in their doctrinal classes under the guidance of professors who are passionate about empowering their students to succeed.

– Elizabeth Tran, Class of 2024

I had the opportunity to work on a case this semester with a client in need of post-conviction relief. It was truly fascinating to navigate the intricate intersections between the state criminal justice system and the immigration courts. Through this experience, I gained valuable insights into the complexities of these legal processes and the profound impact they have on individuals’ lives.

– Hesley Gonzalez, Class of 2024

I am extremely grateful for my experience with Western State College of Law’s Immigration and Deportation Defense Clinic and with Esperanza Immigrant Rights Project. I gained invaluable hands-on experience serving the needs of the underserved and vulnerable immigrant community. In addition to developing legal skills and knowledge, my team and I were able to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals and families in need.

– Monica Calvillo-Chou, Class of 2024
