BIOGRAPHY

Mark Brown is a veteran litigator with over 30 years of legal experience, specializing in criminal defense, high-stakes appellate advocacy, and executive leadership.

He served 27 years at the Orange County Public Defender’s Office, culminating in his role as Chief Deputy Public Defender. Over the course of his career, Mark tried more than 50 criminal jury trials to verdict, argued over 20 cases in the California Court of Appeal, and twice argued before the California Supreme Court (Reilly v. Superior Court and People v. Superior Court (Smith)). His leadership within the office included overseeing the Writs & Appeals division, Branch Courts, and the Felony Panel.

Recognized for both his skill and integrity, Mark was named “Public Defender of the Year” in 1997 and received the “J. Dean Allen Character Award” in 2015. He began his legal career at O’Melveny & Myers and holds additional background in family law and corporate benefit consulting.
