PUBLIC SERVICE PROGRAM

Western State College of Law’s Public Service Program (PSP) encourages student engagement in public service, recognizing it as a critical element of their educational and developmental journey. Upon graduation, PSP participants earn Public Service Certificates, distinguished by a colored cord worn at the ceremony, signifying their dedication to service throughout their law school career.

Certificate of Public Service 40 hours
Certificate of Distinguished Public Service 100 hours
Certificate of Exemplary Public Service 200 hours

Students earn public service hours by participating in community service events with local nonprofit organizations such as Second Harvest Food Bank, the SPCA, and the Surfrider Foundation.

Public service engagement at Western State is fostered through a multi-faceted approach. The Director of Public Interest Programs spearheads efforts to connect students with impactful local community opportunities. Complementing this, the Student Bar Association dedicates an annual Public Service Week in the spring to promote various student organization-led events. Beyond organized activities, Western State also encourages and recognizes students’ existing community involvement, allowing them to count these valuable hours towards their PSP certificate.
