BIOGRAPHY

Professor Israel Moya brings a diverse background as a diplomat, human rights advocate, and dedicated public servant with vast international experience over the past two decades in South America, Africa, and Asia.

In Nepal, Professor Moya was a Human Rights and Trafficking in Persons Specialist with the U.S. Department of State. In Rwanda, he was the National Research Coordinator for a Columbia University child protection study in Rwanda’s protracted refugee camps. He previously worked on immigration and labor law community education in Michigan, low-income housing preservation in Brooklyn, NY, and on a major international environmental human rights case in Ecuador (Aguinda v. Chevron). His international career began in Uzbekistan, where he taught community health in a clinic for two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer.

Professor Moya is the author of an upcoming young adult coming-of-age novel set in rural Central California during the anti-immigrant mid-90’s. Monarchs in the Wild is set for release in Spring 2026 by Tu Books.
