WSU Law School Admissions
Each applicant to Western State University College of Law is assigned to one of our Admissions Advisors, who is available to answer questions and assist in the application process. An interview with the advisor-in person, by phone or email-is highly encouraged, to discuss in detail the student’s background, expectations, needs and values, and asses mutual fit for the student and WSU.
Law school is a huge investment of time and money, and is the entrée to a profession. So picking the right law school, where a student is going to do well, and thrive, and get launched on their career, is very important. And it’s important to us that we give them all the information they need on which to make an informed choice. So our department is all about making sure that their questions get answered, that they get to know all the aspects of life at Western State, and who the members of the community are. So they can judge whether this is the right place for them.
I would tell any student that was thinking about coming here that they ought to pick a law school where the students are comfortable with the administration, with the student body, and especially with the faculty. I always encourage students when they’re thinking of going to law school to actually go to a school, see if the admissions staff is going to be able to arrange for them to sit in with classes. Maybe to meet a professor beforehand. When students come to my class, for instance, as visitors I give them materials that we’re going to be covering that day and I have them sit in the class so that they can follow along. Choosing the right school is really important. You should pick a school that you think is going to help you be successful. Because you can go to a terrific law school, but if the school is not going to help you succeed, you’re not going to be successful.
I chose Western State because they were so welcoming and so inviting they were there for me every single step of the way, if I had any questions or concerns night or day I could email I could call they would get back to me right away and to me that was really important during the admissions process it’s a scary environment you’re not really sure what’s going on it was the first time I had to deal with student loans and knowing that I could contact someone and they would get back to me that same day or the very next day with the information that I needed was very comforting the admissions staff as well as thee professors and other faculty members here are just absolutely amazing they’re so warm and inviting and you really feel good and secure when you come here.
I didn’t feel like just another number when I spoke with the staff here at Western State, and I still remember the person I spoke with – Rhonda Roberts – and when I got here they made me feel at home. They made me feel welcome. So, and it didn’t stop there. I mean, it started there but throughout my whole time here they made me feel that way and so I remember that, I’ll always remember that and I always tell people that.
Our Faculty are extraordinarily accessible. In fact, even before students sometimes have been admitted, or between the time they’re admitted and start law school, they’ll find that they have a lot of personal time, attention, and communication with faculty. Visiting their classes, having an opportunity to meet with them at events, or in their offices. And that level of personal communication, they will encounter throughout their time as students at Western State. It’s really quite unusual.
I always felt everyone was interested, whether it was my professor, my career counselor, the admissions director; everybody was interested in having you succeed. We were taught and trained here to do better. It didn’t matter where we started – we heard that a lot. It’s where you finished and finishing and making a difference in the law is what I promised that admissions director 24 years ago that one day I would make a difference in the law. Today, all my clients would be very grateful to him, and I am as well.
